Samsung has just released its new top of the line smartphone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra during its Unpacked presentation. As expected, the S24 Ultra is a powerhouse with the latest features and specifications in an attempt to revolutionalize the smartphone. But are these impressive additions actually useful and worth the likely premium price tag? Let’s dive in.
The most notable improvement that can be observed on the S24 Ultra is the use of a new 200MP main camera. This goes way past of the S23 Ultra that has a 200MP Pixel Count density. More sensors are dense and can provide even more detail and clarity to the photos, particularly as far as the zooming is concerned. Samsung has pointed out that the larger size of the lens can effectively gather more light than one would expect to enhance the low light capability.
On paper, 200 hundred megapixels sounds staggering. But do average users really need that many pixels squeezed into a tiny smartphone sensor? But you get diminishing returns past a certain point and in practice most shots are only ever viewed at 2-10MP after compression. However, it is impossible to deny the importance of this factor: the presence of a specification sheet still stirs up conversation and attracts attention in marketing. The S24 Ultra enhances the camera experience and brings in new AI features as well on the device. AI technology allows this phone to optimize all of the photos and videos taken in real-time as it has a dedicated AI processor for that. This includes relighting subjects if needed, reducing noise, sharpening details, and more.
Samsung claims that the on-device AI can understand in excess of 50 various scenes and optimizes the capturing settings accordingly. For instance, it can adjust the exposure, colour and processing which it perceives at a given place as a sunset. The audience is no longer required to twist knobs and make adjustments manually. The AI also drives a new additional feature – “Super Resolution Zoom”. It applies machine learning to reconstruct detail from 200MP sensor data by extracting the information from the raw data. As a consequence, Samsung asserts to experience higher clarity even at the higher 30x and 100x Zoom.
Longer Battery Life
The Galaxy S24 Ultra packs in a sizable 5000 mAh battery—the largest ever in an S series device. Along with a new 4nm chipset, Samsung guarantees a dramatic increase in battery life compared to previous generations.
More specially the S24 Ultra can go for more than two days of regular usage with only a single charge. Even among the heavy users, the probability of the device running out of charge within a day is slim. The phone also supports fast 45W wired charging and can get up to 65% charge in a half an hour. Still, for 512GB or even 1TB of storage, you will have to pay significantly more. On average the S24 Ultra will be a premium smartphone, but it will be more expensive even compared to the current high end devices.
Should I Upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra?
The S24 Ultra, without a doubt, can boast of some of the largest annual enhancements we’ve witnessed. The 200MP camera and artificial intelligence imaging are very big jumps, at least on paper if not in practice. Better battery capacity will also contribute to more meaningful daily use of the devices.
However, the concrete impact is still questionable. There is no doubt that there are restrictions on the sophistication of the specs and that relevancy decreases as more complex specs are used. The majority of customers will never require a confusing 200MP camera sensor for their regular use. The implications of the AI also cannot be accurately measured until we can test it to the fullest extent.
However, early birds and speculators will continue to run towards the S24 Ultra in droves as we have seen. However, for the regular everyday browser, it would be advisable to wait for the first discussions to take place and see how well the new programme operates. The fact that it is likely to be by an astronomical amount already narrows down the customers interested in the S24 Ultra to just the hardcore Samsung fanatics. Without any doubt, this will be the ultimate smartphone…for those who can afford it.
